Welcome to STORRE: Stirling Online Research Repository
STORRE holds a continually growing collection of the full text of the research outputs of University of Stirling authors. It includes published journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, working papers, etc. As a result of the University policy encouraging open access, the repository will continue to develop as an important source of free full text access to Stirling's research.
STORRE also holds the full text of all University of Stirling research theses from September 2006 onwards; covering PhDs, Masters of Philosophy and Masters by Research plus Professional Higher Degrees by Research. A small collection of our older theses is also included, and is continually added to, due to our involvement in the British Library's EThOS service.

In Nigeria, the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation (2018) has entered into force. This Convention was incorporated or domesticated by referring to it in the Arbitration and Mediation Act (2023), but statutes are often dedicated to the domestication of treaties. There is no consensus on the most pragmatic way(s) to facilitate Nigerian treaty engagement. This article examines the Nigerian legal regime on treaties and explores the extent to ...

Background In Great Britain, local authorities responsible for alcohol premises licensing produce a statement of licensing policy setting out how they intend to exercise their statutory licensing functions including on trading hours. We aimed to describe and compare these policies on alcohol trading hours, including their interpretation and application of laws and guidance. Methods Policies were obtained from the websites of all 366 local licensing authorities and uploaded to NVivo. Using co...

Poor quality urban environments substantially increase non-communicable disease. Responsibility for associated decision-making is dispersed across multiple agents and systems: fast growing urban authorities are the primary gatekeepers of new development and change in the UK, yet the driving forces are remote private sector interests supported by a political economy focused on short-termism and consumption-based growth. Economic valuation of externalities is widely thought to be fundamental, y...

The functional and evolutionary outcomes of whole genome duplication (WGD) events are driven by global remodelling of gene expression. Most investigations of gene expression changes following WGD have applied bulk transcriptomics using tissue samples, thus failing to resolve affected cell types. Here, we leverage single cell transcriptomics of liver tissue in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) to quantify cell-specific expression and transcriptional responses to a bacterial infection with Aerom...

Background There is growing evidence that exposure to unhealthy urban environments increases the risk of developing non-communicable diseases (e.g. diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory illness), with marginalised communities bearing the greatest burden. However, to date, evidence alone has not been sufficient to make health a top priority in the development of urban environments. Methods The aim of this study was to develop and optimise an intervention to increase the intention ...
